Serving you since 1920 !
The AVJ was born out of a political desire to provide public transport on the eastern shore of Lac de Joux for the villages of L'Abbaye, Les Bioux and L'Orient. Over 60% of the AVJ is still owned by its founding municipalities, L'Abbaye, Le Lieu and Le Chenit.
From 1899, the left bank of Lac de Joux was served by the Le Pont - Le Brassus railway line, which was used, among other things, to export ice to Paris.
On 11 May 1920, the villages in the south, left to their own devices, created the Société des Auto Transports de la Vallée de Joux, dedicated exclusively to passenger transport between Le Pont, l'Abbaye, l'Orient and le Sentier. Today, this ‘founding’ task accounts for just 5% of all the AVJ's activities !
