I recently participated in a video interview for an administrative position conducted in English. The interviewer was an HR representative based in Italy who did not speak English fluently and had no knowledge of the local market or companies in the Vaud region. Communication was extremely difficult, and I repeatedly had to ask for clarification because I could not understand her. She also appeared unable to understand my responses. For a role requiring English proficiency, this was surprising. The interviewer’s manner was dry and discourteous, which further detracted from the experience. Overall, the process felt disorganized and unprofessional. I was genuinely surprised that Medtronic would designate an HR representative with such limitations as a candidate-facing point of contact.
