Position:
Looking for more visibility in a broader role? This is a newly-created position joining a team of 6 at the Associate level, so if you have a few years of legal, tax or compliance experience as regards funds taxes, within the investment trade cycle as well as having a strong knowledge of financial instruments and custody, this could be just the job for you! 

Under the supervision of senior staff, you will work autonomously across a varied range of tasks. . Activities are performed in support of the groups' various funds (primarily Luxembourg but not exclusively - also to include Australian and UK funds). This covers the areas of market access, proxy voting and market taxes. The role involves wide collaboration in the team as well as interaction with internal parties and external partners (e.g. custodian banks, tax consultants).

Function and responsibilities in more details, but not limited to:
 
  • Coordinate local market opening and account maintenance in collaboration with the custodian bank: market access, tax and proxy voting documentation and the necessary research on standard matters in collaboration with internal and external experts to clarify local country requirements; coordinate market opening with the custodian bank to new market requests and fund launches as well as assisting in fund events changes (renaming, liquidation, renewals etc) and the necessary legalization and filing process
  • Perform and/or monitors standard market taxes related functions – withholding tax: oversee the reclaim of withholding taxes under Double Tax Treaties performed by the custodian bank (as regards tax relief)  + maintaining the rates in the accounting system as well as solving tax reconciliation items
  • Build strong knowledge in the areas related to the tasks assigned: stay abreast of market developments via newsflashes, webinars, conferences and regular contacts with tax advisers, custodian bank specialists and internal stakeholders, and identifies and assesses related business risks and impacts (i.e., applicability of regulations and requirements), have good knowledge of the fund’s literature (Prospectus, Annual Reports, Fund fact sheets, investors’ website, fund legal documentation, fund data etc.); participate in process improvements and identify possible solutions. as regards client requests  (working closely with the Management team)
  • Participate in cross departmental projects and team initiatives:  provide input to working group to establish project plan and processes based on defined business objectives, identify and address tax and market access impacts
 
Profile:
  • You will have around 2-4 year's relevant experience in funds taxation and/or custody matters - this experience could come from a custody bank, an asset manager, Big 4 etc 
  • In possession of an international legal, compliance or tax education 
  • Demonstrate the ability to form a good understanding of the funds’ features (e.g. prospectus, standard corporate administration documents, umbrella, sub-funds and share –classes structure) - essential
  • A hands-on person as this is a small team where you will work on a broad range of tasks ("not afraid to get hands dirty") 
  • A strong working knowledge of the asset management industry and fund operations as it relates to financial instruments, investment trade cycle, legal and regulatory framework - a must
  • Good numerical ability, high proficiency with various technologies, and ability to apply it to work assignments
  • Strong attention to details, rigor, organizational skills and able to execute and prioritise daily tasks as necessary 
  • Strong communication and relationship skills - able  to effectively collaborate with others to meet shared objectives
  • A proactive, dynamic and driven personality who is also low-key with a lot of warmth and humility
  • Fluent written and spoken English (French is a plus but not a must) 
  • Already based in the Geneva area and in possession of valid work permit or compelling reasons for moving to the region (EU/EEA, Swiss, British nationals or equivalent only - due to work permit regulations)
