The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of five Swiss university hospitals. Through its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and the EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in the areas of medical care, medical research and training.

The Haemostasis and Platelet Research Laboratory belongs to the Service and Central Laboratory of Hematology of the CHUV and the University of Lausanne.

The goals of our lab are:

  • To develop new tools to investigate and dissect signaling mechanisms underlying and modulating procoagulant collagen-and-thrombin (COAT) activated platelets generation (e.g., cytoplasmic ion fluxes and protein phosphorylation).

  • To study the role and clinical impact of procoagulant COAT platelets in hematological diseases, such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, myeloproliferative neoplasms, heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT), and in transfusion medicine.

  • To evaluate diagnostic utility of thrombin generation assays in following clinical conditions: rare bleeding disorders, new direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC), and patients with liver disease.

  • To investigated mechanistic, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of HIT.


  • You will carry out a research project in the field of platelet biology / physiology and you will be involved in the research activity focusing on the characterization of procoagulant COAT platelets.

  • You will contribute to develop new methods to study procoagulant platelets with flow cytometry and microfluidic flow chamber model, using fluorescence microscopy.

  • You will conduct experiments, including preparation of substrates, isolation of platelets from blood, fluorescent staining procedures, flow cytometry, and fluorescence microscopy.

  • You will contribute to the management of the project, including purchase of supplies and general laboratory maintenance, literature search, experimental planning, synthesis and interpretation of your results.

  • You will write research grants, reports, and manuscripts for scientific publications.

  • You will present your research work to regular lab meetings, national and international congress.


  • You graduated from a Master in life sciences, biology or equivalent

  • You have strong interest for research

  • You are nimble-minded and you have a sense of collaboration, creativity, good analytical and synthesis capacities

  • You have good command of English, both spoken and written

  • You are familiar with the general basic techniques in a laboratory

  • You have skills in flow cytometry and protein analysis

  • Knowledge in fluorescence microscopy are an asset

  • You are adaptable to irregular schedules.
