Creative Media Production Manager and Script Writer for Scientific-Educational Content

The new Unit for Teaching and Learning, UTL (former LET and staff division Strategic Initiatives) at ETH Zürich initiates and leads ETH-wide initiatives for strategic teaching development, co-designs the development of cutting-edge media and tech, supports curriculum design, and offers support and inspiration to lecturers for the design of their teaching activities.

The Edumedia team is part of the UTL at ETH Zurich. The Edumedia team crafts media that bridge education and science, collaborating closely with professors and lecturers at ETH Zurich. Operating at the crossroads of art, innovation, and science, the team works in co-design to develop a wide array of media including videos, comics, animations, podcasts, GIFs, and new media like VR – and potentially AR in the future. The team consists of interdisciplinary experts in graphic design, science visualization, animation, camera work, editing, UX design, and media studies.

Job description

We're in search of a "Creative Media Production Manager and Script Writer for Scientific-Educational Content" to take a leading role in project based media productions. The focus of the role is on conceptualization, text development, and the management of both analog and digital media productions. Your primary duty will revolve around making complex scientific educational ideas accessible and engaging through crafting and refining scripts together with ETH’s content experts. These scripts will form the basis from which the media designer produce audiovisual content. You will also be co-writing blogs, proposals and web content as the text expert in a team of other media professionals.

Further, you will be a key player in the idea development of new media projects within ETH, connecting with professors from all departments to initiative new projects from the ideation to proposal design, script writing to production management and final evaluation. This entails not only shaping the narrative of these materials but also overseeing their conceptualization, coordination, and execution across various media formats with the team.

As a production manager, you'll ensure smooth project workflows and facilitate communication between professional media designers, lecturers and students. In the absence of the team lead, you'll potentially be able to step in to represent the Edumedia Team in the future.

Your profile

  • A Ph.D. or Master's degree in media or film studies, applied literature or cultural studies, or an equivalent qualification
  • Two to ten years of work experience in related fields such as script development in a journalistic outlet, social media role, video or game production company or communication role in a university setting
  • Proven experience in organizing, coordinating, and executing media productions (e.g., media/film productions, theater productions, festival organization or similar)
  • Demonstrated expertise in editorial work
  • Curiosity and interest in working across the STEM heavy ETH curriculum
  • Profound appreciation for storytelling and narratology across various media formats (podcasts, videos, comics, etc.)
  • Strong aptitude for creativity, effective communication, and teamwork on the intersection of science and education
  • A methodical approach to work, combined with self-motivation, flexibility and resilience
  • Genuine curiosity about current trends in technology, media, and science
  • Proficiency in both English and German (written and verbal)

A Plus:

  • Experience in science communication
  • Experience as a deputy head (SteV)
  • Successful grant proposal writing
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience with Generative-AI
