A postdoctoral position in Computational Biology and Evolutionary Biology

Introduction

UNIL is a leading international teaching and research institution, with over 5,000 employees and 17,000 students split between its Dorigny campus, CHUV and Epalinges. As an employer, UNIL encourages excellence, individual recognition and responsibility.

Presentation

A postdoctoral position in Computational Biology and Evolutionary Biology is available in the Fasshauer lab (https://fasshauerlab.org) at the Department of Computational Biology.

Job information

Expected start date in position: 01.08.2024
Length of contract: 3-years
Activity rate: 100%
Workplace: University of Lausanne, Department of Computational Biology, Bâtiment Génopode, CH-1015 Lausanne-Dorigny

Your responsibilities

The group is investigating the conserved protein machinery involved in the fusion of transport vesicles, in particular the proteins driving the release of neurotransmitters from synaptic vesicles. To come to a better understanding, we focus on a detailed structural, kinetic, thermodynamic, and phylogenetic characterization of the underlying protein-protein interactions. The main task of the successful candidate will lie in conducting research on protein interactions using biochemical methods and/or in establishing a detailed evolutionary description of the vesicle fusion machinery using bioinformatical approaches.

Your qualifications

In order to complete our team, we are seeking highly motivated and creative person with a firm background in biochemistry or bioinformatics. The candidate may hold a PhD in life sciences, computer science, mathematics, or bioinformatics. An interest in bringing together computational biology and biology is desirable. Applicants should have excellent scientific writing, communication and interpersonal skills as she/he is working at the interface between biochemistry and bioinformatics. An interest in supervision of Master or PhD students is desirable.

What the position offers you

The department offers a supportive and stimulating environment, with access to excellent computer facilities (links to the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics) and molecular labs. The environment is highly international, and all activities are conducted in English. Beyond the training in the host laboratory, numerous possibilities exist at UNIL for further professional education (e.g., in bioinformatics, imaging, soft-skills, career development).
