As a Principal R&D Engineer you are the key technical authority in the assigned area. You are in the driver seat for technology evaluations and execute development projects within and beyond Business Line Mining.In this role, you will be in charge of driving the key technical solutions development that support the strategic direction of strong integration of electrification and automation, to spearhead the all-electric mine technical portfolio. This includes power and energy management within mining.The position offers the unique opportunity to leverage ABB’s strengths together with your experiences to solve upcoming challenges in reliable, economic and optimized management of power within mine sites.

Your responsibilities

• Mapping and evaluating the fit of the technical solutions portfolio related to power and energy automation and management to enable a strong Business Line Mining value proposition.
• Evaluation and definition of interfaces of power and energy management systems towards other systems (e.g. operations management systems, fleet management systems, …).
• Strong collaboration with portfolio and product management to ensure requirements match customer needs.
• Support technology management in evolving R&D roadmaps in the area of responsibility and consulting line management in new technical competency development.
• Collaboration with other units and partnering to drive the mining requirements with chosen solutions.
• Driving prototyping and proving the technology stack by the development of real-time simulators/demonstrators.
• Mapping of needs related to integration of renewables and energy storage considering grid stability into automation stack of Mining.
• Requirements management and building a network across BLs and divisions
