Today, the cameras of smartphones have reached a new level of technological advancement with features such as focus, depth of field, optical zoom, and optical image stabilization. Can we use these new capabilities in innovative use cases that go beyond taking photos and videos? 

One possible use case is to measure the speed and distance of moving objects using the camera. Imagine being able to point your camera at any car, bike, or runner and get their speed and distance information in real time. How great and useful would that be? 

This is the challenge that you will face in this internship: to design and build a mobile app that uses the camera to measure the speed and distance of moving objects. You will use the latest technologies of the camera, such as high-resolution, optical zoom, and optical image stabilization, to achieve this goal. You will also integrate with a map provider to show the location and trajectory of the moving object. 

Your key challenge will be to develop a mobile app that uses the camera to its full potential and delivers a useful and impressive experience to the users.

You will join our team of mobile developers, with the support of our computer vision and machine learning experts. You will work in a dynamic and highly skilled environment.

 

Objectives:

  • Analysis & research of current speed and distance measurement solutions and camera technologies

  • Understand the key principles and techniques of speed and distance measurement using the camera

  • Identify & validate the best solution architecture and design for the speed and distance measurement app

  • Design and develop a speed and distance measurement app that showcases the innovation and quality of using the camera
