The National Center of Competence in Research, NCCR Catalysis, aims to revolutionize catalysis research in Switzerland, developing skills, tools, and technologies that facilitate the transition towards a carbon-neutral chemical industry. To achieve this goal, it combines multidimensional and cross‐disciplinary modes, including catalysis, chemistry, materials science, chemical and process engineering, and computer sciences with translational approaches in research, education, and society. Jointly led by ETH Zurich and EPFL Lausanne, the network comprises seven universities and three research institutes in Switzerland.
To complete the NCCR Catalysis Project Office, we are searching for a Scientific Officer.
The Project Office comprises the Scientific Officer, Officers for Data Management, Education, Knowledge and Technology Transfer, Communication, and Equality, as well as an Administrative Assistant. The Scientific Officer will be based at ETH Zurich but will support the whole consortium. In close contact with the directors and other members of the Project Office, you will monitor and promote progress towards the research and structural objectives of NCCR Catalysis. A key role will be to encourage scientific integration. In this function, you will develop ideas for joint research activities and interdisciplinary platforms for knowledge exchange following the NCCR research schedule. As a research facilitator, you will elaborate on the NCCR’s knowledge transfer strategy towards the academic sector and will be responsible for its implementation. This includes the organization of scientific events, such as the annual conference, seminars, and retreats. You will also define policies for internal communication and will be responsible for the NCCR website. Finally, you will be responsible for coordinating scientific reporting, which means that you will formulate the guidelines, as well as gather, edit, and streamline the research projects’ inputs to ensure the strategic alignment within the NCCR objectives.
You have an academic education (doctoral degree) with a good knowledge of chemistry at different levels. Ideally, you have some experience in project management and a good understanding of academic environments. You are a proactive individual with a creative and critical mindset and good organizational skills who is motivated by the prospect of positioning the NCCR Catalysis as the headquarters of sustainable chemistry in Switzerland and beyond. You have excellent written and oral command of English and German (French is an asset). We offer a dynamic environment in a multilingual team, flexible working conditions, and diverse opportunities for development. The starting date will be 1 September 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.
