The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to work as a senior electrophysiologist in IOB.

IOB is a research institute combining basic and clinical research. Its mission is to drive innovations in understanding vision and its diseases and develop new therapies for vision loss. It is a place where your expertise will be valued, your abilities challenged, and your knowledge expanded.
IOB uses state of the art electrophysiological and two-photon imaging techniques to both understand vision and to test therapies aimed to restore vision. In the role as Research Associate, Senior Electrophysiologist, you will bring in your expertise to support our physiology research teams across the institute.

Your position

  • Perform two-photon targeted patch clamp and multielectrode array experiments;

  • Teach electrophysiological and two-photon imaging techniques to PhD students;

  • Maintain electrophysiological and two-photon laser equipment at IOB;

  • Organize the physiology suite at IOB;

  • Introduce selected IOB employees to the use of confocal microscopy;

  • Collaborate closely with members of IOB Groups and Platforms.

Your profile

  • PhD degree in neuroscience;

  • Minimum 3 years-experience in performing patch clamp experiments in brain tissue;

  • Experience in two-photon microscopy and multielectrode recordings is a plus;

  • Experience in data analysis;

  • Enthusiasm in teaching electrophysiology to PhD students;

  • Ability and willingness to work with rodents and human post-mortem tissue;

  • The candidate should be highly organized, precise, detail-oriented and computer skilled;

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English.
