Business Development Manager, Europe

Indigo improves grower profitability, environmental sustainability, and consumer health through the use of natural microbiology and digital technologies. Utilizing beneficial plant microbes and agronomic insights, Indigo works with growers to sustainably produce high quality harvests. The company then connects growers and buyers directly to bring these harvests to market. The company is headquartered in Boston, MA, with additional offices in Memphis, TN, Research Triangle Park, NC, Basel, Switzerland, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and São Paulo, Brazil.      

The goal of the Business Development Manager role is to drive execution of launch and expansion of our business lines, extension to new countries and markets, and scoping and mapping of new opportunities.


  • Fully assumes ownership of Project Management / PMO coordination for Europe
    • Personally understands key activities across business lines

    • Works with business and workstream owners to track progress and identify risks and derailers

    • Owns governance and sets up effective reporting for the European team

  • Takes ownership of specific projects (with initial focus on operational execution of Indigo Marketplace) and leads them to successful execution.

  • Leads assessments and mapping for new business and geographic opportunities and supports market development activities
    • Support engagements with leading growers, grain processors and food companies and provides synthesis of insights and trends

    • Structures business case for new opportunities

    • Performs financial evaluation, in coordination with Finance

    • Structures implementation roadmaps

  • Supports European Team in prioritizing and structuring portfolio of projects and opportunities to execute European business plan


  • Strong business and commercial acumen

  • Direct knowledge of end-to-end value chain in agriculture; passionately committed to be part of the transformation of agricultural value chain

  • Customer-driven mindset; confidence in customer discussions and record of building relationships

  • Excellent project management credentials and hands-on experience

  • Record of business case preparation and financial evaluation

  • Proactive, can-do problem-solver with demonstrated ability to energize and motivate the teams

  • Strong listener, able to constructively challenge status quo


  • 5-10 years progressive experience in a management consulting firm or an internal consulting role in a corporation

  • Track record of successful engagements with agricultural business is a must

  • Hands-on experience in PMO or project portfolio roles

  • Excellent command of English; other languages an advantage

  • Readiness to travel extensively, mostly in Europe
