Compagnie Financiere Tradition, based in Lausanne and listed on the Swiss stock exchange, is the parent company of Tradition group, a leading global financial firm offering brokerage and information services across multiple asset classes to a variety of leading market participants such as investment banks, commercial banks, hedge funds, asset managers, and large corporates active in hedging and trading activities. TraditionData, the division which is specifically dedicated to data commercialization, has its own product specialists and universe of clients.
With consolidated revenues close to USD 1bn, and around 2,300 employees, the group is located in more than 30 countries in the 3 time zones.
The nature of the activities involves comprehensive IT capabilities, including the development of proprietary trading and STP platforms. It also involves extensive market data procurement and internal data consumption and production. Leveraging and monetizing data are taking center stage for both internal and external use. A growing data science team has been established in 2021 and is based at the headquarters in Lausanne.
In this context, Compagnie Financière Tradition is creating a new position of Chief Data Officer to lead the transformation of the group to being a data-driven company.
Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for establishing a data strategy, for managing data across the organization, in all aspects such as access, usage, quality, protection and governance and for scaling up the machine learning capabilities.
This includes:
• Driving the data strategy and its implementation ;
• Advising on, monitoring, and governing enterprise data ;
• Designing databases and data infrastructure ;
• Enabling data usability, availability, and quality ;
• Supervising and extending data science initiatives.
You will understand the strategy and direction of the business with the focus on how to underpin that with data.
You will coordinate with both the business divisions, the support functions and the IT teams in order to ensure that the data needs of the group are met, data use is improved, and more generally data assets are managed and create value.
Reengineering the infrastructure in conjunction with the IT departments will be a key part of the data roadmap in order to reduce barriers that inhibit data asset accessibility, maximize the use of the data, improve the operations and position the group as a data-driven company, also taking into account emerging trends.
Your responsibilities will include managing the data science team on a day-to-day basis, from the incubation of new projects to the deployment of the most promising ones.
This position reports to the group CEO.
Skills & Experience :
• Demonstrated training and experience in data management, governance including creation, application, and maintenance of data standards, collection, accessibility, analysis, protection, use, and dissemination.
• Data analytics skill set i.e. a good knowledge of data science and machine learning. Able to translate analytics results into business terms.
• A practical knowledge of the data protection regulations.
• A strong business focus with an ability to lead by influence due to the transversal nature of the responsibilities. Knowledge of the trading field would be a plus.
• Proven strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural environment, with excellent presentation skills.
• Fluent in English. French would be a plus.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
• A Master degree (Baccalauréat/Maturity/A-Level + 5) in Computer Science, or Data Science or Big Data or Data Management or Statistics, from a renowned University or Engineering school.
