State Archivist
Office for Culture / 80-100% / Chur
The State Archive of Graubünden, as a department of the Office for Culture, is responsible for securing and continuing the historical legacy of the canton. It supports and promotes the use of the rich archival material available from around 800 years by historically oriented research and the interested public. In addition, the State Archive serves legal certainty and advises the cantonal administration on record keeping and information management. Significant projects are underway with the development of an archive of architectural culture and the planned takeover of the RhB archive.
Due to the retirement of the current office holder as of October 1, 2026, or by agreement, we are looking for a communicative personality who can lead the State Archive as a customer-oriented service center into the future.
- You will strategically further develop the State Archive based on legal foundations and the state of archival science and lead the committed and competent team of around 13 employees.
- You ensure the structural, personnel, and financial resources that the State Archive needs to fulfill its legal tasks.
- You represent the State Archive within the cantonal administration, where it performs a cross-sectional task, and towards other stakeholders.
- You supervise the public archives in the canton (municipal archives, regional archives).
- Together with relevant institutions of historically oriented research, you develop, promote, and support scientifically and culturally significant projects.
- You promote the communication of Graubünden's history as orientation knowledge in educational institutions and the public.
- You have a completed degree in cultural or legal sciences, preferably in history.
- You have completed postgraduate studies in archival science or bring substantial practical experience from a larger public archive.
- You have advanced knowledge of the digital world.
- You can develop strategic goals and concepts as well as lead and implement demanding projects. Leadership experience is desired.
- You represent the professional requirements of archiving in the context of the cantonal administration and towards other stakeholders with social competence, convincingly and motivatingly.
- You communicate in writing and orally in a target-group appropriate, fluent, and precise manner.
- Knowledge of Graubünden history is desired.
- Knowledge of several cantonal languages is an advantage.
