Research Senior Engineer (m/f/x)

Research Senior Engineer (m/f/x) Job Summary

This position is primarily intended to support a new project in the field of pre-operative planning. The work encompasses collaborating with internal and external partners to obtain medical imaging data, develop an automated image analysis and calibration method, and validate the results against various sources of clinical and biomechanical data. This project will involve project management as well as technical tasks.

This position will also support the global development of new products and the maintenance of existing products where challenging R&D problems are solved by means of computer simulation including finite element analysis (FEA) and morphologic analyses.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support by collaborating with internal and external partners for medical image data preparation, data analysis, software development and biomechanical testing.

  • Provide project management support by collaborating with internal and external partners to achieve project milestones, such as contracting, ensuring seamless communication between the parties and reporting.

  • Perform all phases of computational simulation of product performance, from formulating a protocol through documenting results, in order to address biomechanical simulation needs.

  • Present the results internally, in international conferences and in in peer reviewed articles.

  • Provide technical assistance to other departments within Zimmer Biomet (Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, etc.) for the maintenance of existing products.

  • Involvement in improving the efficiency of internal procedures and software resources

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Minimum education requirement is a PhD or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.

  • 5-7 years medical device experience preferred, particularly in orthopedic industry

  • Experience with medical image analysis and coding is necessary. Experience in extracting mechanical properties from medical images (CT) is an asset.

  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and biomechanics is a requirement


  • Familiarity with machine learning is desired

  • Demonstrated ability to methodically investigate and resolve problems

  • Ability to maintain and assess own progress on multiple assignments relative to project schedules

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)

  • Publication track record is an asset
