Primary Job Function:

The central Advanced Analytics team at the Abbott Established Pharma Division’s (EPD) headquarters in Basel helps define and lead the transformation towards becoming a global, data-driven company with the help of data and modern data technologies (e.g., Machine Learning, Deep Learning). To us, Advanced Analytics is an important lever to reach our business targets, now and in the future; It helps differentiate ourselves from our competition and ensure sustainable revenue growth at optimal margins. Hence the central AA team is an integral part of the Strategy Management Office at EPD that has a very close link and regular interactions with the EPD Senior Leadership Team.

With the above requirements in mind, EPD is looking to fill a role of a Senior Manager Data Science Solutions, reporting to the Director of Advanced Analytics. You will lead a team of Data Scientists (senior/principal) developing effective and impactful data science solutions for EPD world-wide, sometimes in collaboration with regional/local/functional data scientists within EPD and sometimes with the help of external partners.

Core Job Responsibilities:

• Lead and be responsible for on-time and high-quality delivery of prioritized Advanced Analytics solutions in collaboration with AA product owners and dedicated lead data scientists.

• Help the team of data scientists structure, challenge, scope, refine effective data science solutions to key business challenges. Main responsible for the quality of data science solutions.

• Challenge and coach data scientists within global as well as regional/local/functional data science team as well as at external partners to push for optimal insights and optimized/tailored/high-impact data science solution.

• Lead the global data science team (8-11 members).

• Define and ensure implementation of data science standards for exploration, development, and deployment, which are also applicable to regional, local, functional data science teams within Abbott EPD as well as external data science partners.

Minimum Education:

• Master or PhD in relevant field (e.g., applied mathematics, computer science, engineering, applied statistics)

Minimum Experience/Training Required:

• At least 8-10 years of relevant working experience, ideally in pharma environment

• Experience in leading a data science team, ideally on- and offshore · Solid experience working on full-life cycle data science; experience in applying data science methods to business problems (experience in the financial/commercial or manufacturing / supply chain areas a plus).

• Strong experience in e.g., data mining, statistical modelling, predictive modelling, and development of machine learning algorithms

• Solid programming experience in Python with good knowledge of SQL

• Experience in building python-based web application

• Proven problem-solving ability in international settings preferably with developing markets

• Practical experience in working and leading teams working in cloud environment preferably AWS / Sagemaker a plus

• Solid experience working and managing a team working on full-life cycle data science; experience in applying data science methods to business problems

• Practical experience managing a team deploying machine learning solutions

• Good understanding of good software engineering principles and how to implement them in an organization

• Good knowledge of testing frameworks and libraries and how to implement them in an organization

• Proven communication skills, ability to lead diverse teams

• Practical experience in advanced data analysis techniques that include customer segmentation, propensity modelling, pricing & optimization techniques, and predictive modeling

• Ability to work with and lead cross-functional teams and bring business and data science closer together - consultancy experience a plus

• Fluency in English a must, additional languages a plus

• Intrinsic motivation to guide people and make Advanced Analytics more accessible to a broader range of stakeholders.
