Mission :

As the summit organisation of world cycle sport, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is the guarantor of the proper application of ethical and sporting regulations.

Bicycles and equipment (wheels, clothing, etc.) used in competition across the different disciplines are at the forefront of technical advances; the associated rules represent a significant part of the UCI Regulations. These rules, based on the Lugano Charter, aim to reconcile the quest for performance with rider safety, ensuring the fairness of competition – in particular the primacy of athletes over machines – and preserving the essence of cycling, while at the same time making the most of the advantages that technological evolutions can offer.

In particular, the Equipment Manager's mission is to monitor all types of technical innovation in cycling, update the rules and procedures governing equipment, and ensure that these are applied and properly understood by the parties concerned, all while liaising with the cycling industry and other stakeholders in the sector.

Main responsibilities and tasks :

Regulations and procedures

• In-depth analysis of the relevance of the prevailing regulations to meet objectives, in particular regarding safety and equity.
• Implementation of a strategy to revise equipment regulations and procedures.
• Optimisation of equipment approval procedures.

Equipment (including clothing and helmets)

• Management of equipment approval procedures.
• Management of approval procedures for equipment used in competition in all the cycling disciplines.
• Regular checks of the compliance of equipment used in competition with the regulatory requirements.
• Management of special unannounced equipment checks during competition to ensure compliance with UCI regulations.
• Management of relevant budgets.

New technology

• Manage projects to introduce the use of new technology such as onboard cameras and data transmission (position, speed, heart rate, cadence, power, etc.) to all cycling disciplines for which such technology is relevant, in cooperation with sports coordinators and the various interested parties (organisers, TV production companies, etc.)

E-mountain bike and cycling esports

• Developing the technical elements of E-mountain bike and cycling esports, and the related tools used for verification, in close collaboration with the manufacturers.
• Planning and implementing adequate equipment checks at events to ensure compliance with the UCI regulations.

Relations with skateholders

• Regular communication with manufacturers and teams to ensure their understanding of the regulatory requirements and applicable procedures.
• Maintaining good relations and deepening the UCI's collaboration with teams and manufacturers in the cycling sector in order to ensure regular information on ongoing developments.

Profile :

• Degree in engineering with at least five years’ professional experience.
• Knowledge of the sport of cycling or another sport in which equipment plays an important role.
• Fluency in spoken and written English; a good level of French would be an advantage.
• Proven managerial skills, self-reliance, and leadership.
• Project management experience.
• Diplomacy and adaptability.
• Capacity to cooperate and work as part of a team.
• Ability to innovate.
• Ability to lead working groups and seminars, write professional reports (in English) and make presentations.
• Flexibility to travel and work on weekends and holidays.
