Equinix Switzerland is hiring a Global Solution Architect located in Zurich.

Within the COO office, this role will be responsible for providing technology and solution-based thought leadership, bridging the network, data center and Cloud/IT infrastructure into repeatable offers.  The Global Solution Architect will be responsible for supporting strategic sales engagements, driving thought leadership in a cross functional manner, and supporting the global strategy of Equinix. The candidate will support key initiatives that include, but are not limited to, strategic sales engagements, development of offers, repeatable solutions, and use cases, focused on the five sales verticals within the Equinix Ecosystem (Network, Financial, Cloud, Content/Digital Media, and Enterprise).

Responsibilities


  • Provide strategic support for Equinix global sales organizations


  • Understand the goals of the company and position, and effectively develop strategies to meet those goals


  • Operate in a three-tiered engagement account engagement model that includes demand capture, demand creation and professional services touch points


  • For assigned projects, define scope, plans and deliverables including  cost projections and proposed implementation dates


  • Research, analyze, recommend and implement new technologies, standards, processes, tools and techniques.  Research, evaluate and stay current on emerging tools, techniques and technologies


  • Create systems infrastructure portions of information/technology plans based on an understanding of the customer's organizational strategic direction, technical context and business needs


  • Under minimal direction, lead and coordinates the design, development, implementation support and optimization of infrastructure systems that enable and support Equinix business


  • Review other infrastructure system designs to select appropriate technology, ensure efficient use of resources and ensure integration of multiple systems and technologies


  • Coach and provide technical leadership to others on network designs, platform sizing, infrastructure system design and the application of new technologies and project management methodologies


  • Provide technical support for marketing initiatives through participation in proposals and marketing studies


  • Identify, develop, update and enforce standards and procedures


  • Interface with resources in the CIO, CTO, CMO and CSO organizations on system infrastructure problems, technical concerns, and financial issues

Qualifications


  • Proven years of experience preferred in the functional technical domains of Network, Data Center, enterprise IT systems.  Ideal candidate will have a background in pre-sales designing/consulting, designing network architectures, the discipline of Enterprise Architecture and enterprise resource planning


  • Proven years of experience preferred in Solutions selling and technical support experience in the high-tech industry preferably in the network, cloud and/or data center markets


  • Substantial telecommunications experience required; technical and commercial knowledge of network operator topology and architecture and IP routing strongly preferred


  • Thought leader who is innovative, entrepreneurial, well respected and actively sought out


  • Recognized in the industry through channels such as social media, authoring white papers, or public speaking engagements


  • Candidates will have a strong technical expertise in one of the following domains:


o   Networking


  • Substantial telecommunications experience required; technical and commercial knowledge of Tier 1/2 ISPs topology and architecture and IP routing is required


  • Proficient in router and switch features and configuration, BGP and other routing protocols, performance measurement, tuning and scaling, and reliability and security techniques


  • Experience with Network Peering, CDN’s, fault tolerant designs, and QOS mapping


  • Proficient with common networking telecom concepts: routing and switching protocols, MPLS and IPVN services


o   Cloud Computing


  • Public, Private and Hybrid cloud services and deployment methodology


  • SDN, OpenStack, OpenFlow and network automation and virtualization


o   Enterprise IT


  • Must have a thorough understanding of, and experience with, servers, storage, layer 3 networking and enterprise software.  Solid understanding of the entire OSI stack


  • Software and Database system development


  • Storage Platform technologies (SAN/NAS) including Hardware and Software (EMC/NetApp/Sun/IBM/HP/VMware/Citrix/Brocade/Juniper)


  • Must have a thorough understanding of the implication of common IT product on system designs: servers, storage, layer 3 networking, and enterprise software


Required Education


  • Bachelor degree or equivalent industry experience


  • Possesses  an undergraduate degree in a related field (business, technical, professional


  • Certifications highly regarded


  • Advanced industry certifications in lieu of degree (i.e Cisco, VMware, MS, AWS)


Other Requirements


  • Employee will exhibit confidence and influence when presenting verbal and written proposals to prospects, structuring consulting agreements, and be comfortable developing SOWs and related consulting deliverables


  • Employee will be comfortable speaking at conferences, acting as an authority in his field, and prospecting from industry events


  • Employee must be comfortable handling all phases of a consulting engagement, and will ideally show potential to attract and manage additional talent over time


  • Employee must exhibit a ‘Consultative based’ mindset


  • Demonstrate strong listening and collaboration skill for uncovering unmet customer technology-based needs and translating the requirements into strategic solutions
