Research Engineer (Remote Europe)

Role Overview:
We are seeking a Research Engineer to join our team. This vital role in our research division contributes significantly to our mission of advancing precision medicine and healthcare innovation. The position involves collaborating with machine learning scientists to develop, integrate, deploy, debug and document advanced ML models to validate research findings and demonstrate the feasibility of new technologies or concepts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prototyping & Validation: Build and test prototypes or proof-of-concept models to confirm research findings and demonstrate the viability of new technologies.
  • Integration & Deployment: Work with machine learning scientists to deploy advanced ML models into our software platform, enhancing its application in clinical and research settings.
  • Software Solutions & Compliance: Develop and deploy software solutions and algorithms for medical imaging analysis, ensuring adherence to medical software standards, such as IEC 62304.
  • Maintenance of existing software
  • Problem-Solving: Identify technical challenges within research projects and develop solutions.
  • Debugging & Stability: Address software issues to improve the stability and reliability of applications.
  • Collaborative Expertise: Engage with teams across disciplines to understand project requirements and apply technical expertise to solve complex problems.
  • Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a solid foundation or experience in machine learning.
  • Demonstrated experience in software development and deployment, especially in clinical environments. 
  • Understanding of medical software development standards, particularly IEC 62304.
  • Experience in medical imaging; Ophthalmology is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
  • A blend of academic and industry experience, showcasing the application of theoretical knowledge in practical settings.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive approach, fueled by a passion for AI and ML, with an interest in digital health, precision medicine, and eye care.
  • Experience in a startup or consulting environment is an advantage.
  • Must be a resident of a European country and  be fluent in English
