Design Assurance Engineer
Main Responsibilities
- Ensures the understanding of the customers' needs and their translation to project scope
- Facilitates design risk assessment with the key stakeholders and experts
- Ensures that test plan exists and is completed in cooperation with test engineering and design engineers
- Is the owner of a design/product control plan
- Maintains a strong link with supplier development and quality
- Gives support/coach in the design process and tools
- Tracks and applies lessons learned
- Ensures the right level of deliverable quality for the Gate review
Key Daily Tasks
- Ensures deliverable compliance with the Bobst PDP and the intended content quality
- Based on customers' needs, processes and uses scenarios, creates together with a cross-functional team technical requirements of the design and ensures their testability
- Facilitates the FMEA process on product/design level and ensures the high risk items are tracked and closed by the end of the project
- Ensures drawing, and technical documentation is in place and is regularly updated in line with technical requirements and test results
- Participates on the regular design reviews
- Drives continuous improvement in the field of design process and ensures the lesson's learned from previous projects are applied in new ones
- Leads the creation of a test plan (mechanical, electrical, software) with engagement of a cross-functional team
- Ensures the necessary project quality metrics is calculated and reported on a timely manner
- Updates regularly the link between the test progress and the design risks
- Understands part quality requirements
- Provides feedback and support to the supplier part qualification process (BPQP)
- Compiles a control plan based on product CTQ, test plan and residual risk
- Ensures together with manufacturing and supply chain departments that the control plan is executable and supports its implementation
- Strong ability for cross-functional integration
- Capacity to adapt to different cultures
- Ability to draw conclusions from data and be able to perform data analysis - in Excel. Analysis using Anaconda/Python is a plus.
- Candidates need creativity to imagine innovative, effective new solutions and designs.
- Critical thinking, logic and reasoning are important when troubleshooting difficult issues.
- Candidates must be able to develop solutions to problems, as well as manage multiple issues at the same time.
- Understanding and appropriately responding to feedback is an important aspect of this position.
- Proficient with MS Office - Ability to create Excel models/templates to aid the various activities
- ERP knowledge, ideally SAP, is a plus
- Knowledge about 3D design software or electrical design software is a plus
- Familiarity with various packaging and converting processes is an advantage (corrugated board, folded carton…)
- Excellent communication skills
- Proactive work style, reliable and accountable
- Strong leadership skills, acting with transparency and openness
- Ability to follow multi-tasks in parallel and resistance to stress
- Takes ownership and responsibility
- Willingness to travel <10% of the time
Education and Experience
Education
- Minimum bachelor degree or equivalent in mechanical, mechatronic, electronic design or automation (practical experience in machine building industry counts towards this requirement)
- English (min. B2 level), French
- Six Sigma Green belt certification is an advantage
Background
- Proven experience with mechanical, mechatronic, electronic design or automation
- Min. 5 years of experience working in a design environment
- Previous experience working as a test engineer is a must.
- Previous experience in a machine building industry is a plus
