Embedded Software Platform Director

As Embedded Software Platform Director, you will drive the transformation of equipment embedded software. Leading a new software strategy, your mission is to establish a target software architecture and embedded framework, to define tools & development process, to coordinate the implementation program, to establish a software lifecycle approach, and to pilot skills evolution within the Product Lines.
You will join Group Technology, a transversal R&D department leading BOBST's digital transformation by supporting all Product Lines with core competence in software & IoT, and you will manage a software development & UX design team.
We are looking for manager with demonstrated can-do attitude, with a strong technical background in software development, and a proven track record in leading teams under Agile framework. We are seeking a solution-oriented leader with a digital mindset, able to implement a software strategy while understanding business needs and creating bonds with internal stakeholders.

Main responsibilities and Key tasks:

• Consolidate and manage a team of software development engineers and ensure proper implementation of the embedded software platform.
• Define a new equipment software architecture and embedded framework for our machines (automation, HMI, backend), with appropriate technology, engines, and abstraction level for efficient implementation within the Product Lines
• Collaborate with Group Technology's IoT team to define API's, data structure, protocols and remote upgrade capabilities to properly answer IoT driven use cases and services-oriented business models.
• Define with the IoT Team and the Product Lines the future common software factory (from versioning to automated testing) and establish guidelines to set up a software lifecycle strategy for machine software and automation (product upgradability, versioning, backward compatibility, etc.).
• Maintain the backlog of the embedded platform, in collaboration with the Product Owners and according to value-based priorities.
• Drive and support the Product Lines to transit to a software-oriented approach for the machines, from technical aspects, to methodology and features.
• Support Product Line to define software development organization and skill evolution.
  Be accountable for platform reliability, security, and operability.

Experience, competencies and special skills:

• >10 years of embedded software development experience, and >5 years leading and managing software development teams
• Strong awareness on embedded technology (e.g. C++ / C#, web server framework, Angular, Linux, virtualization, dockization, Azure IoT Edge)
• Solid awareness towards machine automation and industrial software development (e.g., Siemens)
• Strong awareness on cyber security aspects
• Continuous integration and deployment oriented (must)
• Proven ability to work with Agile management methodologies, independently, and with a clear ability to build MVP and demonstrate value through step-by-step approach
• Natural leadership to drive, coach and motivate teams in a cross-functional environment and under Agile Methodologies
• Capabilities to convince key stakeholders (e.g. Software developers, Product Owners, IoT Specialists)
• Solution oriented and natural problem solver, ability to be flexible to analyze and to adapt to situations
• Effective leadership skills in driving execution of projects in complex environments or ambiguous context
• Capability to navigate in complex topics, absorb, and synthesize large amounts of information, confidently draw conclusions from your research, and put them into clear recommendations and points for the team.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and team-working attitude (leader, listener) to be able to work in multicultural and group-level organization, with a strong ability to build partnerships and act as a servant leader.
• Strong and effective communication skills (oral and written) to interact at different levels of the organization (e.g. executives, customers, operators).
• SCRUM, Product Owner or Agile Certification is a plus

Education, languages & special conditions:

• M.S. or PhD degree in software development or related field (Computer Science, Communication Science, Information Systems, etc.) or any related field
• Strong written and oral English language skills, basic French skills at least, any additional language is a plus
• You are ready to travel up to 15% for Product Lines visits
