Product Stewardship Lead

As Product Stewardship Lead you will lead the development and coordinate with regions/countries for the roll-out of stewardship strategies for key Syngenta CP active ingredients and products; and represent Syngenta’s interests at CropLife International. The role is critical in ensuring the safe, responsible, and sustainable use of Syngenta’s products and is integral to maintaining Syngenta’s reputation as a leader in agricultural innovation while ensuring the protection of users, the environment, consumers, and the broader agricultural community.

Your responsibilities:

Leadership and Management

  • Provides strong professional leadership across the global product stewardship organization to ensure the safe handling (storage, distribution, use and disposal) of Syngenta’s products, and works with regional and country stewardship teams, regulatory, product safety and business sustainability to meet relevant regulatory requirements and deliver Syngenta’s stewardship commitments.
  • Represents Syngenta’s interests at CropLife International and actively participates in, and shapes, the activities of the stewardship committee and related projects such as the Strategic Pesticide Management Framework.
  • Communicates product stewardship issues and developments at the highest level in the organization.

Strategy and Policy Development

  • Develops and implements comprehensive pesticide stewardship strategies aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements for key active ingredients and products.
  • Stays abreast of evolving pesticide regulations, emerging technologies, and best practices to continually improve stewardship efforts.
  • Collaborates in cross-functional teams to integrate product stewardship considerations into broader environmental and sustainability initiatives.

Risk Mitigation

  • Manages and promotes the ongoing use and development of the Adverse Incidents Database (AIDA).
  • Monitors and evaluates incidents data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Uses risk assessments to develop risk mitigation plans to minimize the environmental and human health impacts of pesticide use.

Training and Education

  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees, contractors, and stakeholders on safe and responsible pesticide use.
  • Provide guidance on proper pesticide handling, application techniques, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and emergency response procedures.

Fosters a culture of awareness and accountability regarding pesticide stewardship practices throughout the organization.

Qualifications

What are we looking for:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in environmental science, agronomy, agricultural engineering, or related field.
  • In-depth knowledge, experience and passion in product stewardship or related area.
  • Strong understanding of agronomic practices, pest management strategies, and integrated pest management (IPM) principles.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in teams.
  • Proven ability to work in complex organizational environments.
  • Experience of working on industry association teams and interacting with inter-governmental organisations (e.g. OECD, UN) and other external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to understand the most complex stewardship issues and develop effective strategies for managing them.
  • At least five years’ experience in product stewardship or a related area.
