PhD position (4 years), program Biomedicine

The new formed research group at the Institute of Laboratory Animal Science (LTK), University of Zurich led by Dr. Ivana Jaric is seeking candidates for a PhD position available from 1st July 2024, or as soon as possible after thereafter.

PhD position (4 years), program Biomedicine

Your responsibilities

The PhD student will work on a project which aims to enhance preclinical rodent research under the Sex as a Biological Variable (SABV) initiative, to better align with precision medicine criteria. More precisely, the project will focus on investigating whether reproductive histories shape the brain and behavior through epigenetic mechanisms and assess the stability of these changes within and across sexes. The approach is multidisciplinary and includes experimental work with laboratory mice, comprehensive behavioral and hormonal profiling, cutting-edge single-nuclei multi-omics and computational approaches, as well as general molecular biology and microscopy tools.

Your profile

Candidates should possess a Master's degree in a relevant field, such as Biology, Biomedicine, Neuroscience, or Molecular Biology. Experience with mouse experiments and R programming (or eagerness to learn) would be considered a plus. Enthusiasm for neuroendocrinology, behavioral biology, or epigenetics, along with motivation to achieve their highest goals, and enjoyment of working as a team player would be highly appreciated.

What we offer

We offer an attractive academic environment, opportunities for career development and the chance to work in the state-of-the-art Bio Technopark Schlieren. Our location is next door to the university's largest animal husbandry facility, as well as biotech and medtech start-ups.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of scientists involved in national and international research projects focused on high-level research and teaching in translational and basic research. Our aim is to promote responsible animal research that benefits both animals and humans.
