About this role

As Sr. Engineer II, Automation Core Systems, you will be responsible for providing engineering and technical leadership in support of Data Systems at the Solothurn site. Responsibilities include collaboration and building partnerships with site stakeholders and customers to ensure service levels and strategic direction align to the organizational vision. The incumbent also plays in a key role leading the site team in designing, configuring, testing, validating, and maintaining all site Manufacturing Data Systems; elements including historian and data analytics.

This position will be a member of the BES Systems Core team and work in close partnership with the System Administrators of the various systems interfaced to Data Systems and the Infrastructure team to deliver a seamless, integrated, compliant and holistic framework for control system platform management and administration. Primary responsibilities include Data Systems system administration, management, maintenance, troubleshooting, and future enhancements to ensure the Data Systems systems are maintained in a validated and reliable state.

What you'll do

  • System Management

You will be responsible for maintaining the Solothurn Data Systems, ensuring they remain validated, operational, and supportable. It involves assessing the platform's composition and condition, understanding stakeholder expectations, and evaluating the platform's health and performance metrics. You will be tasked with improving operational service metrics, identifying opportunities to enhance the platform's value, managing quality-related processes, and serving as a subject matter expert during audits.

  • System Strategy

Strategic development of a platform roadmap that incorporates performance measures, addresses current challenges, and plans for future enhancements. You will proactively have to engage with business functions, platform managers, and stakeholders to collect feedback, ensure alignment, avoid redundancy, and execute the roadmap. Continuous improvement and optimization of the system's overall functionality are key responsibilities.

  • System Administration

Responsibilities in this area include administering the Data Systems, covering BMC1, BMC2, and Validation environments. Duties encompass system monitoring, setup, testing, qualification, validation, optimization, service lifecycle management, and requirements gathering. The goal is to maintain system stability and efficiency through effective administration practices.

  • System Maintenance

Conduct maintenance activities, such as reviewing and installing software patches and updates, configuring systems for new equipment integration, coordinating with the Infrastructure Team on hardware and software changes, and monitoring system performance metrics. You will also support periodic reviews to ensure the systems operate within defined limits.

  • Engagement

Interaction with customer groups to ensure that platforms meet automation standards across various domains, including quality, engineering, and environmental health and safety. You will collaborate with global teams for standard development, liaise with system vendors for licensing and issue resolution, and oversee external contractors engaged in managed services or projects.

Qualifications

Required skills

  • You hold minimum a Bachelor of Science degree in Automation, Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years related automation experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including system/platform operational experience of manufacturing data systems in 24x7 facilities.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical engineering/manufacturing environment.
  • You must have demonstrated capability for maintenance and compliance support of complex and integrated control systems, especially OSIsoft PI Data Systems, and its interfaces to DCS (DeltaV) & MES (Syncade) systems from design and commissioning / qualification through to 24/7 system operation.
  • You must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server Administration; Server Virtualisation; Microsoft IIS troubleshooting; Dell Poweredge server hardware; System Networking including DNS, SMTP, NTP, vLAN, Network Switches / Routers, and Firewalls.
  • This position may require working on-call duty, occasional off hours or, temporary shift models to ensure maintenance tasks are performed with minimal impact to system operation.
