Postdoctoral position in Life Course Sociology and Demography


Job information

Starting date : September 1st, 2024


Duration of contract: 1-year, renewable contract for 2 x 2 years, with a maximum duration of 5 years.


Employment rate: 100%


Workplace: Lausanne Mouline, Géopolis


Salary : CHF 82'664.- (with annual increase)


Your responsibilities

 



  • 50% of the workload for personal research tasks (e.g. publications to increase the valorization of the dissertation, publications, contributions to conferences, projects development, etc.).

  • 50% of the workload for teaching support and research activities within the Centre de recherche sur les parcours de vie et les inégalités (LIVES-ISS), particularly in the context of projects on family dynamics and  vulnerability.


 


Wherever possible, we will give preference to candidates who can take advantage of the synergy between personal work and collaborative work within LIVES.

Your qualifications


  • Completion of a PhD in a relevant social science discipline (e.g demography, sociology, social sciences, public policy,  etc…)

  • Ability to analyse large-scale longitudinal survey and do cross-national comparisons, data manipulation, and the use of visualisation and data dashboards to summarise and communicate results. An ability to analyse administrative data is highly desirable. Ability to undertake mixed methods research, including analysing in-depth data from interviews is an advantage. 

  • Good knowledge of sociology and social demography are an advantage. Interest and experience in family sociology and/or demography are an asset.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and ability to teach in French are required.


What the position offers you

The successful applicant will work closely under the supervision of Professor Bernardi. Part of the task will be  to develop a newly granted interdisciplinary research project on the role of family on children wellbeing (FamyCH). The project aims to provide new insights into various custody arrangements on several dimensions of wellbeing across different social groups and types of families. 

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to pursue his own interests in the domains of family dynamics and the life course. He or she will be joining a high achieving, multidisciplinary and collaborative research environment at the LIVES Center. The project is associated to the (LIVES-ISS) enabling the postdoctoral fellows to work alongside a strong group of researchers investigating aligned topics and participate in professional development and mentoring opportunities provided by the LIVES Center at the University of Lausanne.
