Postdoctoral Researcher in Designer Quantum Materials, Ultraquantum Matter, and Non-Abelian Anyons
Mission
We are seeking an excellent and highly motivated candidate for a postdoctoral position focused on implementing numerical simulations for designing novel quantum systems hosting of Fractional Chern Insulators (FCIs) and related physics of non-abelian anyons, relevant to topological quantum computing.
This position is funded by the Swiss Quantum Initiative through the SNSF project "Quantum Materials and Entangled Phases for Topological Quantum Computing", lead by Dr. Alexander Kruchkov. It lies at the interface of quantum materials by design, emergent phenomena in ultraquantum matter, and AI-enhanced quantum simulation.
A successful candidate will have significant freedom to propose and evaluate the feasibility of novel approaches.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Conduct research projects and contribute to the design of new materials and models of FCIs and related topics.
- Develop and advance existing numerical methods, analyze data, interpret results, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Build and maintain a strong professional network within the research community.
Profile
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- A PhD in physics or a closely related field.
- Practical experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Expertise in twisted moiré heterostructures (e.g., twisted TMDs or twisted graphenes) is desired;
- Strong computational and analytical skills;
- A proven track record of relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Independence, creativity, and a solution-oriented mindset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach to research and good interpersonal skills.
We offer
