Performance Engineer (Geneva - Switzerland)
Join the FIA as a Performance Engineer and help shape the FIA World Championships (Formula E, WEC, WRC, WRX) through data-driven analysis and simulation.
With a particular focus on Formula E, you'll attend races and tests with access to all car data, support regulatory and performance decisions, and actively contribute to the design of future-generation cars.
You will report directly to the Performance Team Leader.
MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
FIA World Championships:
- Conduct performance analysis for other FIA championships – Deliver data-driven insights to support Balance of Performance (BoP), Equivalence of Technology (EoT), and regulation development for series such as WRC, WRX, and others
- Support wind tunnel homologation activities for LMH, LMGT3, GT3
ABB FIA Formula E World Championship:
- Support race definitions – Contribute to the definition of race formats (e.g. number of laps, duration) by running simulations and coordinating with key stakeholders
- Perform full-grid post-event performance analysis, analyzing the onboard data from all competitors to assess performance, identify anomalies, and provide input for technical and sporting decisions
- Support technical operations during the event – Assist FIA Technical Experts and the Championship Manager on-site with real-time simulations and targeted analyses
- Be part of the development of the next generation of racing car, following the project from the concept phase to prototype car track test until the first race. Simulations will play a key role in the definition of the car spec and in supporting the development of the Single Suppliers
Performance:
- Maintain and update performance analysis tools to ensure timely and effective analysis
- Introduce new technologies, like AI, to leverage the large FIA vehicle data database
Simulation:
- Lead the vehicle model correlation and development to deliver the most accurate simulation results possible
- Benefit from the collaboration with the simulation engineer to push forward the limit of the current modelling and simulation accuracy
PROFILE:
- Mechanical / Automotive / Motorsport Engineering Master's degree
- At least 3 years of post-graduate relevant experience in motorsport as a performance or simulation engineer
- English - fluent spoken and written
- French and/or Italian are an asset
- Motorsport Data Performance Analysis – ability to summarize the KPI within a large dataset and extract the main conclusions
- Basic knowledge on all the areas of a racing car (chassis, aerodynamics, power-unit, tyres,...)
- Race Strategy – capability to optimize the outcome with the available information, such as race energy management, etc
- Engineering programming languages: Matlab/Simulink, Python, etc.
- Telemetry tools (Wintax, Atlas, Motec,...)
- Data Analytics (PowerBi,..)
- Excellent organisation and communication skills
- Ability to work in the strictest confidence with suppliers and teams and under tight deadlines
