Job Description

Your responsibilities

Would you like to participate in supporting the computer infrastructure used to develop integrated circuits (ASIC) for the LHC experiments (ATLAS, CMS, ALICE and LHCb) and CERN's accelerator complex? Are you an engineer with hands-on knowledge of the administration of Linux operating system and of Python coding ?

Then join us in the computer infrastructure support team in the microelectronics section of EP-ESE and you will: 

  • Look after computer infrastructure dedicated to microelectronics design, assuring the deployment of proper resources, system configuration, as well as installation and configuration of specialized Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software
  • Be involved in the design and implementation of automation for cluster services. Example targets are : design of project management system, dedicated batch processing farm and network distributed file systems
  • Work, in close contact with specialists from our IT department, on the design and implementation of cluster monitoring and alarm systems, thus developing a deep insight into CERN Data Centre configuration procedures

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Knowledge of Linux operating system administration, preferably Redhat flavour
  • Bash and/or tcsh shell programming
  • Programming in Python, the ability to program in C++ would be an advantage
  • Basic knowledge of object oriented programming
  • Knowledge in one or more of following technologies would be an advantage: Openstack, PuppetLabs, Openshift and Kubernets, working with git repositories and continuous integration (CI) techniques, deployment of ASIC and/or FPGA related EDA software
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Software Engineering or IT (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

This position requires:

  • Residence in the immediate vicinity of the Organization's installations.
  • Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 5134  and 5647 Swiss Francs (net of tax).
