Research Scientist – Reliability, Prognostics & Physics of Failure 100% (f/m/d)


Empower the Future with Hitachi Energy: Join us as a Scientist in Reliability & Physics of Failure. We are looking for a passionate and proficient scientist to join us in reliability engineering to strengthen our team in the area of reliability research for power grid components and systems. As part of our dynamic, motivated, and creative team, you’ll bridge theory and application, developing, testing, and validating novel methods and technologies to facilitate the energy transition.

Your Responsibilities

  • You make a difference: Use your scientific experience to study the physics of failure in our products on materials, component, and system level.

  • You innovate: Develop and apply complex experimental setups for accelerated stress testing, prognostics and innovative defect screening methodologies.

  • You take initiative: Collaborate with a global team of researchers and engineers in Hitachi Energy Research and Hitachi Energy business units to identify and solve real-world problems and realize opportunities for further improvements.

  • You connect: Build relationships within the company and actively share your knowledge and expertise. Interact with local and global external partners including universities, start-ups, and vendors.

  • You communicate: Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports.

Your Requirements

  • PhD or comparable qualification/experience in experimental physics, materials science, mechanical engineering or a related field, which you combine with broad knowledge of the physics of electrical, thermal, and mechanical behavior of material systems.

  • Extensive experience in statistical methods for data analysis and modeling.

  • Experience in reliability testing and methods for materials failure analysis (sample preparation, microscopy and spectroscopy techniques) of electronics, power semiconductors, and/or high-voltage components is considered as a strong plus.

  • Proven track record of publications at top conferences and in scientific journals.

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
