Job Purpose

The nature of the role involves providing leadership and direction in the management of safety and environmental matters, to ensure delivery of the key safety and environmental goals for Amcor. The post holder must be highly influential and have the managerial courage when necessary to assert them and drive safety as a number one priority in the business. Is responsible for deployment of strategic safety initiatives, and supports the development of these initiatives together with EHS management and team. EHS Manager rolls out and maintains safety policies and procedures in line with legislation and regulation, Amcor corporate guidelines and rules, Applicable Legislation.

Financial: about 140 Mio € per year turnover of Kreuzlingen plant

Process: Improvement of EHS Culture on the plant through training, communication, projects handling and people involvement

Staff: 3 direct reports

Principal Accountabilities

Safety Manager has to ensure everyone in the company complies with health and safety laws. He/she is responsible for establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace.

  • conducts Health, Safety and Environmental risks identification and risks analysis in order to identify most appropriate preventive measures by respecting the legislation in place knowing the plant organization;
  • develops, for specific competencies, preventive and protecting measures in the workplace and put in place control system for the measures;
  • insures, in accordance with the Corporate guidelines, the implementation, updating, review and auditing of the Company EHS Systems;
  • must identify potential hazards and recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures;
  • has to produce specific safety procedures for the plant activities;
  • participates to consultations on safety/environmental and to the periodical meetings;
  • Ensures the planning, direction and coordination of EHS activities through functional teams, under the guidance of the General Manager and the Plant EHS team;
  • Ensures the development and implementation of plant-specific policies, procedures and programs to achieve and maintain compliance with relevant health and safety rules and regulations;
  • Works with the EHS team in the preparation and submission of requests for environmental licenses related to air quality, solid waste, water quality and transport of hazardous materials and waste;
  • Has a working knowledge of environmental, health and safety standards and ensures the identification of all requirements that apply, or may apply, to the plant;
  • Ensures the preparation of internal training for specific situations at the plant; identification of other training topics and preparation of the responsible teams and definition of training requirements necessary for the plant EHS activities;
  • Conducts training activities for employees and the plant management team;
  • Assists in the development of EHS processes, records, documents and reports;
  • Coordinates and assists in the execution of financing projects under EHS in order to ensure compliance with requirements and timely completion, including recommending the purchase of equipment to ensure compliance with procedures;
  • Conducts audits of plant activities.
  • Promotes the management and development of your team, developing talent, career advancement and performance management of all elements;
  • Define and control the environmental monitoring plan;
  • Contribute to the management of emergencies in terms of safety/environment;
  • Develop projects in the area of continuous improvement that apply to the safety area;
  • Ensure compliance with EHS rules by service providers within the company's premises
  • Commissioner for Environment and Fire Protection

Qualifications/Requirements

Requirements:

Engineering degree or equivalent education (with proved multi-years’ experience) Superior Occupational Health and Safety Technician qualification;

Knowledge and Experience:

Technical Know-How

  • knowledge of EHS Management System;
  • knowledge of auditing method;
  • knowledge of safety and environmental regulation (Swiss, EU);
  • fluent in German and English.
