Lead, Carbon Pricing

About

The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is an award-winning independent think tank working to accelerate solutions for a stable climate, sustainable resource management, and fair economies. Our work inspires better decisions and sparks meaningful action to help people and the planet thrive. We shine a light on what can be achieved when governments, businesses, non-profits, and communities come together. IISD’s staff of more than 270 experts come from across the globe and from many disciplines. With offices in Winnipeg, Geneva, Ottawa, and Toronto, our work affects lives in more than 100 countries.

Scope

IISD is launching a new multi-year project that supports the development and implementation of carbon pricing mechanisms. It is a joint initiative of IISD’s Energy, Taxation, and Trade teams. Our goal is to provide emerging economies in the Southeast Asian region with in-depth, multi-disciplinary support to identify, develop, implement, and evaluate domestic carbon pricing mechanisms. To achieve this goal, we are combining our unique energy, tax, and trade expertise to deliver a multi-year project that will support carbon pricing proliferation within this region. The successful candidate will oversee the new 5-year project for its duration, guiding a team of experts based in Southeast Asia, Canada, and Europe. They will drive the development of cutting-edge research and practical guidance for governments, the delivery of technical assistance programs, and outreach with key partners and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include

  • Implementing the new work project on carbon pricing in Asia.

  • Maintaining and building a network of contacts, stakeholders, and partners of the program, with a particular focus on the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

  • Supporting donor engagement and fundraising efforts for the general needs of the energy program.

  • Carrying out monitoring, evaluation, and reporting for all aspects of the project.

  • Supporting the professional development of direct reports and other members of the team.

  • Coordinating the carbon pricing work of the Energy Program.

  • Coordinating with other joint activities of IISD’s Energy, Tax and Trade teams where relevant.
