Your responsibilities

Are you a passionate planning engineer with a deep understanding of complex systems engineering, and with an appetite for challenging problems? Would you like to help the ATLAS Technical Coordination team operates and maintains a unique particle physics detector by playing a key role in resources planning? You will join:

• The Experimental Physics (EP) Department which encompasses the experimental particle physics activities in the Organization;
• The Project Office (PO) Section of the ATLAS Detector Operation (ADO) Group, which is in charge of operating, maintaining, and upgrading the Detector of the ATLAS experiment and the associated infrastructure.

As Planning engineer, your will:

• Play a leading role in the process of the quarterly status report. You will be part of the Project Management Office (PMO) and assist the Upgrade Project Leaders in producing the update schedule and progress reports.
• Actively participate to the construction and release of the schedule baseline change, in strong collaboration with the PMO chair and the various Upgrade Project Leaders.
• Collaborate with the deputy Technical Coordinator responsible for Long Shutdown 3 planning to
  • Develop and maintain the ATLAS master schedule and other planning tools
  • Work closely with the project engineers to prepare and follow up the schedule for their respective activities: sub-detectors and infrastructure installation
  • Collect and share updated information on planning activities, inside and outside Technical Coordination
  • Participate in planning meetings aiming at monitoring and reviewing overall progress and coordination of activities.
• Serve as the Point of Contact for the ATLAS Glance team (3-4 engineers) developing and maintaining the Glance interface to the ATLAS Oracle database
  • Collect the requirements for the evolution of the existing ATLAS information management tools, such as the data bases related to the experiment members, authors, publications etc.
  • Assist the small team of software engineers, in particular to establish the planning and priorities for the maintenance and development work of the information management tool.

Experience

• Demonstrated experience in planning, forecasting and resource coordination preferably in an engineering environment, and strong knowledge of relevant software (e.g. MS project)
• Experience liaising with a large number of internal and external stakeholders
• Some experience with databases in particular Oracle databases and/or interfacing tools would be a clear advantage.
• A first experience in supervising a team would be an asset

Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• You have a professional background in industrial engineering, or equivalent (or a related field) and have either:
  • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
  • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

This position requires:

• Work in Radiation Areas.
• Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.

• A monthly stipend ranging between 6212 and 6828 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
