Junior Mechatronics Engineer (BE-GM-HPA-2024-67-GRAE)

Job Description

Your responsibilities

As a Junior Mechatronics Engineer you will join the Geodetic Metrology group at CERN where you will support the High Precision Alignment technologies team. This team is responsible for the design, implementation, operation and data analysis of 3D alignment solutions for specific components in the accelerators, transfer lines and experimental area infrastructure, requiring permanent position measurement and/or remote adjustments, within a micrometric accuracy in a harsh environment.

As part of this role, you will: 

  • Test, assemble and install advanced alignment systems, preparing them for mass production;
  • Follow-up on the assembly, testing, and validation of measurement systems and their components;
  • Craft and review technical specifications, test reports and project documentation; 
  •  Ensure the systems meet stringent reliability and performance criteria.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Experience in mechanical system assembly or testing, and technical documentation;
  • Critical thinking, the ability to work both independently and in a team, and strong communication skills; 
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in mechatronics, mechanics (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

This position requires:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 5134  and 5647 Swiss Francs (net of tax).
