Value / Cost Engineer

As a Value/Cost Engineer you lead project cost estimations in the early innovation stage, providing crucial projections for informed decision-making. You drive sourcing activities for design-to-cost projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficiency. You conduct detailed analyses and modeling of tools and part costs for mechanical and electronic components and establish and maintain corresponding cost databases. Furthermore, you identify and lead Value Added/Value Engineering initiatives to optimize project costs. You contribute actively to negotiations with suppliers. You take the lead in cost audits to ensure accuracy and transparency.

YOUR CHALLENGES

  • Your responsibilities will include cost estimation, including should-cost, cost modelling, top-down and bottom-up approaches for our engineered products across various manufacturing technologies.

  • Conducting cost analyses to verify the manufacturing processes of our suppliers (bottom-up calculations, cost breakdown analysis)

  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs and increase efficiency at suppliers

  • Developing and implementing cost saving strategies

  • Working in cross-functional teams (e.g. Engineering, Procurement, Sales) to collect data, assess risks and opportunities

  • Developing cost models to support product design in early product development phases: Design-to-Cost, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Supply Chain

  • Provide regular reports and updates on cost saving initiatives

  • Cost analysis to support target cost management, benchmarking, make-or-buy decisions and project budgeting

YOUR COMPENTENCIES

  • Education in mechanics, mechanical engineering, production engineering, or equivalent studies in mechanical engineering (HF/FH) with relevant professional experience

  • 5+ years of experience in cost savings, development and strategic purchasing

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and analysis tools focus on the essential facts and a preference for PowerBI

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly identify cost saving opportunities

  • Possesses excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills, with a proven track record of working within a global complex organization

  • Background in machine building, vacuum technology, and semiconductors is advantageous

  • Cross-function / category team management (min. functional)

  • Sensible and emphatic communication skills with suppliers, colleagues, internal stakeholders, etc.

  • Able to get results through others, able to multi-task, sense of priority

  • Advanced German and good English (B1) language proficiency
