Job Description

The Global Engineering & Facilities Organization is looking to add an Industrial Engineer to the team. This individual contributor within one of the Global Engineering & Facilities Technical Authorities (Biologics & Advanced Therapies, Fill Finish or ASO/Small molecule) function is responsible for subject matter expertise in operational process modelling and related improvements to utilization and efficiency of manufacturing equipment, process unit operations, utilities, and facilities.

At Biogen, Subject Matter Expertise is demonstrated by possessing a good understanding of at least some aspects of the Industrial Engineering business process and of some associated methodologies and tools.

The Senior Industrial Engineer I will be accountable for developing manufacturing equipment productivity improvement plans based on business needs, equipment utilization and efficiency indicators using real-life-data driven computerized manufacturing process models. This data will be used to support investments in new manufacturing equipment or in modifications of existing equipment, automation or operating principles.

This role will work in close cooperation with several operational improvement stakeholders at global level and will interact with operational management teams on several Biogen manufacturing sites.

This is a hybrid role that can be based at our offices in RTP, NC or Solothurn, Switzerland.

What You’ll Do

  • Create/maintain the manufacturing processes models using the Intelligen suite of software in collaboration with Site Scheduling, Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering. Improve manufacturing processes models to include raw materials and utilities consumptions, wastewater emissions (quantitative and qualitative) and manufacturing labor associated with every manufacturing process step
  • Collect, analyze and validate real life data from process equipment and operations to feed/confirm the models
  • Interpret the models to identify the bottlenecks and mitigations and present the analysis to all stakeholders to determine the path forward
  • Prepare reports and communication materials to support the presentation of the outcome of the modelling and debottlenecking analysis
  • Contribute to the development of productivity improvement strategy and measurements related to utilization and efficiency of manufacturing equipment, process unit operations, utilities, and facilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required. Master’s degree in engineering preferred (Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering…)
  • 5-7 years’ experience in process industry (pharma, biotech, chemicals, food, oil & gas, energy, automotive, etc…)
  • Relevant experience in using computerized process modeling/simulation tools (SuperPro/SchedulePro, Aspen, …)
  • Experience with manufacturing productivity improvement/ debottlenecking projects
  • Demonstrated experience working in a matrix environment with cross-functional teams
  • Equivalent education and experience may also be considered.
