The International School of Lausanne (ISL) is a leading non-profit, International Baccalaureate (IB) World School set in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. For our Secondary School, we are seeking to employ an inspirational

Temporary position in the first instance from 1 August 2024 to 31 July 2025

This position is in the Arts department of the Secondary School. The appointee will teach eight music lessons of 40 minutes in the IB MYP Programme to 11 to 14-year-olds. Most teachers at ISL are homeroom teachers, contribute to the school’s service learning programme and undertake one or two weekly supervision duties. Part-time teachers contribute to these programmes in line with their work percentage.

Qualifications and Qualities desired

  • A recognised teaching qualification (graduate or postgraduate level)
  • Ability to teach Music in the IB MYP and IB Diploma Programme
  • Ideally three years of successful experience in secondary school music instruction
  • Ability to inspire students to practise and perform music
  • Ability to play and teach a variety of instruments; knowledge of the piano would be an advantage
  • Ability to organise and successfully lead a variety of musical events
  • Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate lessons which stimulate and motivate students to learn
  • High proficiency in English. Knowledge of French is an advantage
  • The ability to plan, deliver and evaluate lessons that stimulate and motivate students to learn
  • Knowledge of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes
  • An understanding of and sensitivity to cultural variance; a work experience in an international environment is a strong asset
  • Adaptability, flexibility, dynamism and a sense of humour
  • The ability to meet high expectations of students, colleagues and a professional parent community
  • Excellent ICT skills and knowledge of their effective use to support pedagogy
  • A commitment to self-reflection and professional development
