The Legal Service is part of the General Secretariat and supports the Rectorate as well as the institutes and other areas of the University of St.Gallen in all legal matters. Other units of the General Secretariat include Committee Coordination, Data Protection & Compliance, as well as Archive and Records Management
Your tasks
- You advise the Rectorate as well as institutes, departments, and administrative units of the University of St.Gallen on legal issues and provide the basis for well-founded and sustainable decisions.
- You act as a legal sparring partner for important university projects and support their legally compliant implementation.
- You draft and review contracts and contract templates and develop practical, clear solutions together with various contacts.
- You further develop university decrees and internal regulations, thereby contributing to consistent legal frameworks at the university.
- You prepare resolutions and decisions of university bodies in a legally sound and target-group appropriate manner.
- You participate in legal opinions and contribute your legal expertise on fundamental issues.
- You monitor relevant legal developments and support the university in recognizing and appropriately implementing new legal requirements at an early stage.
Your profile
- Completed law degree (licentiate / master) from a Swiss university
- Several years of legal professional experience, ideally in an advisory role close to decision-making processes – for example in the public sector, in an in-house role, or in advisory work (e.g., in a law firm).
- Understanding of decision-making processes combined with the ability to assess legal risks in a differentiated manner and develop sustainable, action-oriented solution options.
- Enjoyment in taking responsibility and viewing legal issues not in isolation but in the interplay of risk, scope of action, and implementation.
- Structured, precise, and independent working style with a high standard of quality and solution orientation.
- Convincing, solution-oriented communication at different hierarchical levels.
- Very good German skills as well as good English skills.
- Experience with legal issues related to digitalization and IT as well as a good understanding of technical contexts is an advantage.
- Interest in digital developments and in the further development of modern, efficient work processes.
