As an interdisciplinary research institute for materials science and technology within the ETH domain, Empa conducts application-oriented cutting-edge research for the benefit of industry and society. Through targeted knowledge and technology transfer, Empa transforms research results together with its industrial partners into pioneering innovations, thus making a significant contribution to strengthening the international competitiveness of the Swiss economy. We are engaged, among other things, in the research areas of nanostructured, "smart" materials and surfaces, advanced manufacturing processes, energy and sustainable building technologies, mobility, as well as personalized medicine and medtech applications.
Empa is also a place of encounter and exchange; every year, between 200 and 300 events and guided tours take place at Empa, with a total of more than 10,000 visitors participating.
- You are responsible for Empa's visitor program for (inter)national delegations from science, business, authorities, and politics as well as for general visitor groups, including individual program design and organization of visits and brief introductions to Empa's R&D activities. In addition, you lead groups through the laboratories and Empa's flagship platforms such as NEST, etc.
- You are responsible for expanding existing and building new communities (e.g., Friends of Empa). This includes, among other things, maintaining and further developing certain online and offline channels through which you manage, build, and expand the respective communities or networks, e.g., social media, but alsolive through corresponding events that you design and co-organize yourself.
- You create target group-oriented content: short texts, short videos, photos, interactive content.
- You use CRM systems to maintain community data, systematically manage contacts, and specifically control communication measures, and monitor the impact of your measures using key figures (e.g., member development, engagement, reach) and derive ideas for further development.
- You identify trends in community management and introduce innovative formats and tools.
- At least five years of relevant professional experience
- Very good understanding of integrated communication in online and offline areas and in community building & management as well as in-depth knowledge of handling ICT tools (CRM, CMS, event management, and mailing tools)
- Enjoyment and interest in interacting with people and no fear of public appearances
- Interest in and flair for science, technology, and innovation
- Creative, open, communicative, and independent personality with networked thinking and very good conceptual, organizational, and coordinating skills
- High social competence, teamwork, collegiality, assertiveness, and pronounced service orientation
- Curiosity, quick comprehension, stress resistance, flexibility, and enthusiasm
- Very good German and English skills
- Ideally experience in the research/university sector, e.g., (technical) university studies in communication or in natural sciences/technical fields
