The orthopedic surgery and musculoskeletal trauma service manages surgical conditions and diseases of the musculoskeletal system in adult patients through surgical or conservative means, taking into account the services provided by other HUG departments.
Furthermore, the department ensures rehabilitation and physical treatment of patients entrusted to the specialized unit of physical medicine and orthopedic rehabilitation, as well as the care and preventive actions for people with musculoskeletal injuries related to sports practice.
Job Description
You will join a 20-bed acute care unit in geriatric orthopedics, specialized in the care of patients over 75 years old admitted through the emergency flow for trauma requiring surgical intervention. You are responsible for providing pre- and post-operative care, with particular attention to patients with dementia.
Your role includes integrating innovative approaches, such as the Snoezelen approach, validation according to Naomi Feil, and the use of the multisensory room to improve patient comfort and well-being. These approaches combine gentle sensory stimulation adapted to the specific care of patients with cognitive disorders or confusion, thus promoting their relaxation and recovery.
Your responsibilities under the delegation of nursing staff are as follows:
You ensure the care of geriatric patients before and after their orthopedic surgery. This includes preoperative preparation, pain management, as well as postoperative care aimed at preventing complications and promoting a quick return to autonomy.
Throughout the hospitalization, you monitor the cognitive and functional status of the patient. You are particularly vigilant regarding risks specific to this population: acute confusion, pressure ulcers, falls, cognitive disorders, polypharmacy, etc.
You have the opportunity to enrich your practice by integrating innovative and complementary approaches to technical care. By offering relational and sensory care (Naomi Feil, Snoezelen, multisensory rooms…), you actively contribute to the well-being of elderly patients in the hospital setting.
You work closely with nurses, nursing assistants, surgeons, geriatricians, physiotherapists, and other health professionals to ensure coordinated and personalized care, especially for patients with cognitive disorders.
Attentive and available, you support relatives throughout the care pathway, fully integrating them to optimize the patient’s experience and stay.
You actively participate in creating a positive and caring work environment by engaging in initiatives aimed at improving quality of life within the team.
Qualifications
Having obtained the Federal Certificate of Competence (CFC) as an assistant in community care and health, you hold a valid practice license in the canton of Geneva.
You have sensitivity to the geriatric population and a particular interest in surgery.
You are both organized and responsive to work effectively in a collaborative manner.
Your empathy and sense of service allow you to promote quality care and innovate in your practices.
Flexibility and managing unforeseen events are part of your daily routine in this role.
