Assistant Physician in Forensic Medicine
The Romand University Center of Forensic Medicine (CURML), attached to the Department of Medical Radiology of the CHUV, is looking for an assistant physician for its Forensic Medicine Unit starting May 1, 2026.
Context
The University Hospital of Vaud (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.
Located on the two hospital-university sites of Lausanne and Geneva, CURML has a staff of about 240 employees whose activities take place within thirteen specialized forensic science units.
The Romand Forensic Medicine Unit conducts medico-legal expertises at the request of judicial authorities, contributing to the resolution of criminal or civil investigations. It serves as the link between the medical field and the judicial world.
It also receives special mandates, mainly requests for expertise from third parties (individuals, lawyers, national and international institutions). It can also intervene in particular circumstances, notably for the identification of victims of mass disasters, whether natural (landslides, tsunamis, etc.) or human (transport accidents, conflicts, etc.)
Mission
- Under supervision, you carry out medico-legal investigations at the request of authorities, including post-mortem imaging, autopsy, histological analyses, external examinations, body recoveries, identifications, clinical examinations, as well as expertise in blood alcohol content and case file reviews
- You participate in the organization of scientific seminars as well as theoretical and practical courses within the framework of postgraduate training in forensic medicine
- You contribute to the unit's research activities.
Profile
- You hold a federal medical diploma or a title recognized by the Federal Commission of Medical Professions (MEBEKO)
- You demonstrate excellent command of French (minimum B2 level) and a good knowledge of English
- Proactive and conscientious, you are a reliable person who appreciates teamwork
- You hold a valid Swiss driving license.
The appointment can start from the first year or later, depending on your post-diploma experience in medical practice.
