Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the five Swiss university hospitals and ranks among the best hospitals worldwide according to the Newsweek 2025 ranking. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, it plays a leading role in care, research, and education.
The research interest of the CHUV Pulmonology Service is to improve our understanding of the mechanisms regulating the initiation and progression of allergic respiratory diseases with the microbiome as a central element. Furthermore, we aim to identify interventional strategies for lung diseases, including asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary fibrosis, as well as for lung transplantation, and to optimize our care standards through translational approaches.
Mission
- You will learn basic techniques in cellular and molecular biology (ELISA, PCR, flow cytometry, cell culture, etc.), as well as those for microbiota extraction and analysis
- You will participate in laboratory experiments, including sample preparation, handling of cells or tissues, and monitoring biological assays
- You will examine and analyze the structure, composition, and function of elements taken from living organisms (animal models, human clinical studies). An interest in completing the official basic training for animal handling (mice) is required
- You will contribute to the maintenance and proper upkeep of the laboratory, ensuring the care of equipment and materials, and ordering consumables and reagents
- You will write, analyze, and archive your experimental results (laboratory notebook, files, databases)
- You will exchange scientific and technical information within the team and participate in the continuous improvement of methods and protocols.
Profile
- You have completed your compulsory schooling (VG level with good results in scientific subjects or VP, preferred)
- You are precise, methodical, and meticulous, with a strong sense of hygiene and cleanliness
- You have a logical and rigorous mind, enjoy understanding how things work, and learning through experimentation
- You demonstrate scientific curiosity and have the ability to concentrate for extended periods
- You appreciate teamwork and collaboration in a research environment.
