The Department of Health, together with its employees, takes on diverse tasks in the field of outpatient and inpatient healthcare, health promotion and prevention, health police duties, containment of communicable diseases, networking of decision-makers in healthcare, animal health, and consumer protection.

The Service for Care and Development actively contributes to the promotion of care development in the canton of St. Gallen.
