The Institute for Infectious Diseases performs tasks in teaching and research as well as in diagnostic microbiology in the fields of virology, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology and serological infection clarification. It is the only university institute in Switzerland that combines all microbiological specialties in the field of clinical microbiology under one roof.
The Institute for Infectious Diseases, University of Bern, Switzerland, invites applications for a Postdoc position (for six months, 100%) in the group of Prof Lucy Hathaway.
DescriptionStreptococcus pneumoniae, is a major cause of death globally, particularly from pneumonia and meningitis and treatment is complicated by antibiotic resistance. The postdoc will use in vitro assays including monitoring bacterial growth, adherence to respiratory epithelial cells and biofilm formation to determine the effectiveness of a novel therapeutic.
Requirements
Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant topic, experience working with Streptococcus pneumoniae, be available to start by 1st November and a high motivation to succeed.
Terms of Employment
A fixed-term contract (100%) for 6 months is available.
