Senior EHS Expert – Risk Management & Technical Safety (f/m/d)

As a Senior EHS Expert – Risk Management & Technical Safety (f/m/d), you are responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a systematic, ISO‑45001‑compliant EHS risk management at the Bern site.
The role includes moderating and conducting risk analyses, hazard assessments, pSIF investigations, technical safety evaluations, as well as intensive EHS support for construction, plant, and process projects.
Additionally, the role coordinates the EHS specialists within projects and acts as a professional hub between Engineering, Operations, Quality, and EHS.

This position is aimed at experienced senior EHS professionals with 8–10 years of professional experience, pronounced technical know-how, risk management expertise, as well as very good communication and moderation skills.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Risk Management & Hazard Analysis

• Moderation and execution of risk analyses and hazard assessments
• (including HAZOP, JSA, Bow-Tie, FMEA, Task-Risk Assessments)
• Establishment, maintenance, and coordination of the site-wide Risk Register
• Development of risk mitigation strategies for processes, plants, infrastructure, and activities
• Ensuring consistent methods according to ISO 45001 and CSL Technical Standards

Incident Investigation & Prevention

• Leading pSIF investigations and root cause analyses (ICAM, TapRoot, RCA)
• Definition and monitoring of sustainable preventive measures
• Deriving lessons learned and transferring them into standards, SOPs, and trainings
   

Engineering & Projects

• EHS support for construction, modernization, and plant projects
• Participation in design reviews, change controls, HAZOPs, PSSR, and technical approvals
• Ensuring compliance with global CSL Technical Standards
• (e.g., LOTO, machine and plant safety, chemical management, permit-to-work)
• Professional coordination of EHS specialists in the project environment

Compliance & Management System

• Ensuring compliance with ISO 45001, relevant Swiss legislation, and internal CSL standards
• Maintenance and further development of processes, documentation, and work instructions
• Support during audits, certifications, and regulatory contacts

Coaching, Stakeholder Management & Communication

• Advising and coaching leaders and teams in dealing with risks, standards, and safety behavior
• Translating complex technical risks into clear, understandable recommendations for action
• Promoting a sustainable EHS culture in all areas

Requirements & Qualifications

Experience

• 8–10 years of professional experience in EHS, Technical Safety, or Risk Engineering
• – ideally in regulated industries (pharmaceuticals, chemicals, biotech, energy, mechanical engineering)
• Proven experience in moderating systematic risk analyses
• Practical experience in incident investigations & root cause methods
• Experience in supporting technical projects (construction, plants, processes)

Professional Qualification

• Degree in safety engineering, engineering, chemistry, environment, or comparable technical field
• Solid knowledge of ISO 45001, technical safety standards, and risk methods
• Experience handling hazardous materials, technical systems, and process safety

• Strong communication and moderation skills
• Ability to professionally lead specialists and project teams
• Proactive, structured, and solution-oriented working style
• Confident appearance at all hierarchy levels

Languages

• German: business fluent
• English: very good
