At CERN, we are committed to advancing sustainability across our operations, research, and global collaborations. To support this mission, we are seeking a motivated and experienced Sustainability Strategy Implementation and Reporting Officer to join our team.
Functions
Strategy Support and Implementation
- Support the development and implementation of CERN’s sustainability strategy in line with international standards.
- Coordinate social and governance initiatives across sectors and departments, ensuring alignment and collaboration.
- Engage internal and external stakeholders to advance sustainability priorities, particularly social and governance areas.
- Monitor progress, identify risks, and drive improvements in social and governance performance.
- Promote sustainability awareness and engagement across CERN.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with recognised frameworks in all sustainability communications.
- Potentially supervise colleague(s) in the Sustainability office.
Reporting
- Coordinate the biennial CERN Sustainability Report with the Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Department, integrating social and governance pillars in line with GRI requirements.
- Lead the reporting process end-to-end, ensuring timely delivery of milestones, interacting effectively with external consultants.
- Consolidate and analyse data from across CERN and translate it into clear, impactful content for diverse audiences.
- Draft and deliver sustainability reports and communications in French and English.
- Manage reporting continuity, including procurement and publication processes, in line with CERN rules.
Qualifications
Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Sustainability Management or a related field.
Experience:
- Proven experience of designing and implementing sustainability strategies, notably with respect to social and governance actions, with a focus on project delivery, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrated track record of producing professional, accurate, engaging sustainability reports and communications in English, with a proven ability to distil complex social and governance topics into clear, actionable insights.
Desirable experience:
- Knowledge and practical experience in applying international social and governance standards and frameworks (e.g. GRI, CSRD, UN Global Compact) within sustainability reporting contexts.
- Experience in a multicultural, industrial or scientific organisation.
Technical competencies:
- Drafting and writing of official documents, including text editing and proof-reading;
- Stakeholder relationship management, including stakeholder communications management;
- Drafting of commercial documents for a supply or a service contract in a sustainability context;
- Strategic planning.

- Communicating Effectively: listening actively to others and letting others speak.

Language skills:
Fluent written and spoken English, with a commitment to become proficient in French if not already so.
