The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Basel is inviting applications for a PhD position in Mathematics, funded by the SNF Ambizione grant "Investigating Anomalous Behaviour in Turbulent Fluids through Analytical and Probabilistic Methods" (grant number 233216).
The successful candidate will investigate both phenomenological and theoretical aspects of turbulent fluids, focusing on topics such as Lagrangian spontaneous stochasticity, anomalous dissipation, anomalous regularization, and others. Additional research directions can be pursued if desired, upon agreement with the PI.
The ideal candidate has a solid background in the fields of Mathematical Analysis and Probability, with a strong interest in applying rigorous mathematical methods to problems inspired by real-world applications.
The preferred starting date is in January 2026, but the position may begin as late as June 2026, upon request. The duration of the position is 4 years.
