Developer Web Programming 100% (m/f/d)
The research unit Landscape Dynamics investigates patterns and processes at the landscape level based on ecological and anthropogenic influences. For the projects BioBoard and CHELSA4FAO in the Dynamic Macroecology research group, we are looking for a January 1, 2026 or by arrangement for 12 months
We offer a versatile and interesting workplace in an interdisciplinary research environment. In this role, you plan, develop, and test web environments for two data-intensive projects. In the BioBoard project, you will expand the prototype of a biodiversity dashboard that displays static and interactive web maps of selected biodiversity indicators and enables flexible queries for limited map sections via a Python backend and deep learning models. In the CHELSA4FAO project, you will develop a web-based platform together with an international consortium (FAO, WMO, University of Cantabria, CSIC) that links regional climate models with the downscaling algorithm CHELSA developed at WSL and makes high-resolution (~1 km) climate scenarios accessible in a cloud-based environment. In exchange with interdisciplinary project teams from science and implementation, you develop concepts for the design and functionality of these applications and implement them independently. You test your developments, ensure their quality, and integrate feedback from user groups and partner institutions.
You have a BSc or MSc degree in computer science, geoinformatics, or a comparable education. You have very good knowledge of the programming languages HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python, experience in building systems that communicate via APIs, as well as in backend server development. Ideally, you bring knowledge in cloud computing (e.g., SWITCHengines, AWS), web GIS, and deployment of deep learning models. Furthermore, you have good language skills in German or French and can communicate well in English. You are an independent, team-oriented, and communicative personality with joy in developing practical solutions at the interface between research and application.
