We’re looking for a Senior Patent Counsel who is passionate about making a meaningful impact. This role is based at our Established Pharmaceuticals Division (EPD) global headquarters in Basel, with a focus on biosimilars in emerging markets—a unique opportunity to shape access to healthcare globally.

What You’ll Do

Lead patent activities across emerging markets, with occasional global scope

Advise regional and country leadership on patent strategies for pharmaceutical development, licensing, and launches

Contribute to shaping the strategic direction of Abbott’s global patent team
Your Expertise
You’ll bring deep knowledge and experience in:

Patent law, including freedom-to-operate analysis, patentability, due diligence, and prosecution

Supporting biosimilar and generic product development with strategic IP insights

Navigating complex regulatory and licensing environments

Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams
What You’ll Need

Qualification as a European Patent Attorney (EQE) or equivalent, or admission as an attorney-at-law
-
Scientific degree (BA, BSc, PhD or equivalent)

Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus
-
5+ years of experience in patent law, ideally within the pharmaceutical industry

Experience working in diverse, international teams and matrix organizations

Familiarity with emerging markets (METAP, APAC, China) is highly valued
