Company Description
With more than 12,000 employees representing 160 professions, the Geneva University Hospitals are a nationally and internationally recognized institution. To learn more about our institution, take a few minutes to consult our 2024 retrospective by clicking here.
Integrated into the Department of Psychiatry, the Geriatric Psychiatry Service (SPG) deals with mental health disorders in the elderly according to three intervention axes: treatment of general psychiatric illnesses in the elderly, prevention and treatment of cognitive disorders and dementia, as well as short-term crisis intervention with targeted therapeutic offers. One of the fundamental objectives of gerontopsychiatric treatment is to enable patients to spend as much time as possible at home by providing care for psychiatric and cognitive disorders while taking into account medical comorbidities affecting their physical health.
The Geriatric Psychiatry Service of the HUG is the largest university institution in Switzerland for the care of psychiatric illnesses in the elderly. A particular feature is the offer of an integrated postgraduate training program in psychiatry and psychotherapy of the elderly, which also includes neurology as well as physical medicine and neurological rehabilitation.
Job Description
Due to increasing demand linked to the demographic evolution of the elderly and our commitment in the field of diagnosis and treatment of cognitive disorders and dementias, the Dementia Treatment and Prevention Unit (UTPD) of the SPG is expanding and recruiting an assistant physician to work in tandem with the unit's responsible assistant physician.
You ensure the quality of the unit's medical services and intervene in an integrative and holistic clinical care approach to relieve elderly patients by establishing a precise diagnosis and evaluation of each patient, developing and using the best available treatments by studying the scientific basis and health service administration for the elderly in close collaboration with caregivers, medico-social establishments (EMS), physicians of other specialties, notably geriatrics and neurology, private family practice doctors, and community health workers.
You also participate in intensified and personalized psychotherapeutic intervention for patients, including within a special program for people suffering from mild cognitive impairment. You work within a team of about 50 people including physicians specialized in psychiatry and neurology, nurses, clinical psychologists, and secretaries.
You participate in establishing research projects aimed at enabling early identification of dementia and links with other somatic pathologies. You also contribute to pre- and postgraduate teaching. We are available to support you in your academic development efforts.
Qualifications
You hold a federal medical diploma or training deemed equivalent by the Medical Professions Commission of the Federal Office of Public Health (MEBEKO).
You possess a FMH title in psychiatry and psychotherapy or neurology FMH, or an equivalent recognized by MEBEKO. You are interested in innovative, comprehensive, and integrative approaches aimed at mitigating the effects of psychiatric and somatic disorders in people with cognitive diseases and dementia.
Ideally, you already have experience in elderly care, including typical comorbidities of old age. Ideally, you have already completed your university doctoral thesis or are about to do so.
You find it easy to work in a network and collaborate with physicians of other specialties, enabling early and interdisciplinary management of the most diverse clinical manifestations in people with dementia. It is essential to be willing to work in a team, be flexible regarding clinical activities, and supervise postgraduate training physicians.
Your natural ability to mobilize a team, your open-mindedness, and your capacity to support young doctors in their practice are undeniable assets for thriving in this position. You also know how to adjust services to growing demands and have the ease to work autonomously and spontaneously call on colleagues from other professions to benefit from their expertise in patient care.
For non-French speakers, a C1 level in spoken and written French is required.
