Team Leader Market Control Unit Labor Market 80 - 100%The Directorate of Economic Affairs of the Canton of Zurich (www.vd.zh.ch) oversees the Office for Labor, the Office for Economy, the Office for Mobility, as well as administratively the Zurich Transport Network (ZVV).
In the interest of employees and companies, the Office for Economy (AWI) contributes to strengthening the Zurich location. With its approximately 100 employees, the AWI bundles economic competencies and houses the areas of location promotion, work permits, labor relations, labor inspection, and economic affairs as well as the staff.
The labor relations area is active in implementing the accompanying measures. Wage and undeclared work controls are carried out, compliance with the reporting obligation is checked, the Posted Workers Act is enforced, the Federal Act on Measures to Combat Undeclared Work is implemented, and the labor market is monitored regarding compliance with local, occupational, and industry-standard wages. The offices of the Tripartite Commission of the Canton of Zurich (TPK) as well as the conciliation office are also located in this area.
The Market Control Unit team is responsible for control activities in the area of accompanying measures for the free movement of persons in sectors without generally binding collective labor agreements, the job reporting obligation, and combating undeclared work in all sectors. Due to the retirement of the current position holder, we are expected to look for a team leader as of October 1, 2026, or by agreement.
Your tasks:
- Professional and personnel management of 9 employees, including 6 field staff
- Ensuring quantitatively and qualitatively flawless control activities, correct follow-up, and timely transmission of control results to the responsible authorities
- Monitoring the achievement of control objectives
- Preparing statements and memoranda on all political matters of the federal government and the canton related to control activities
- Early identification, conceptual development, and strategic implementation of specialist topics of the control unit
- Support with media inquiries
- Participation in cantonal or federal working groups in the area of control activities
- Active participation in internal projects
Your profile:
- Completed studies (licentiate or master) in law, political science, or economics
- Proven several years of direct leadership experience is required
- Precise working method, enjoyment of independent work and taking responsibility
- Affinity for numbers
- Fluency in spoken and written German. Additional foreign language skills are an advantage
- Team-oriented, resilient, and communicative personality characterized by confident appearance, quick comprehension, enthusiasm, and assertiveness
- Comfortable in a politically influenced environment and able to contribute appropriately at all levels
