1. Purpose of the role
Strengthen the care teams within the EMS in their objectives to prevent dysfunction, maintain, develop or restore the motor, sensory, cognitive, affective or social functions of the resident in order to enable them to develop a successful life project within the institution.
2. Main activities
• Conduct assessments indicating the remaining physical and psychological capacities of the resident.
• Decide in collaboration with the team and based on observations which physical or psychological problems will be treated with occupational therapy.
• Determine specific solutions to resolve the problems posed by the resident (assistive devices, room adjustments, rehabilitation activities, manual activities, relational work, etc.).
• Carry out the chosen treatment and re-evaluate it according to the patient’s progress and information from the multidisciplinary team.
• Collaborate with the attending physician and physiotherapists for specific occupational therapy care.
• Manage the purchase, storage, maintenance, and allocation of assistive devices.
• Approve related invoices before forwarding them to the head nurse.
• Participate in various conferences. Regularly inform the teams about the resident’s progress and take into account received information to carry out therapeutic intervention.
• Keep informed about therapeutic developments through publications, courses, conferences, and exchanges with other occupational therapists.
• Record useful information for the team in the resident’s file.
• Manage billing of services and send treatment certificates to Management.
• Write an annual activity report.
The certified occupational therapist supervises and works closely with the GAPA specialist to teach proper handling practices and the use of transfer tools.
Required training and qualifications
• Holds an occupational therapist diploma recognized by ASE (Swiss Association of Occupational Therapists).
• Strong sense of collaboration with a care team and organizational skills.
• Demonstrate discretion in case of confidences from a resident, their family, or a staff member.
• Actively participate in the institution’s and SANTE SUISSE’s quality approach.
